PROJECT SUMMARY
INTELLIMEDI LTD. has developed an application based on miniature
sensors, which are implanted in the body following open heart
surgery or orthopedic procedures for in-vivo, real time,
objective and dynamic monitoring of the bone healing process.
THE NEED
Current methods of monitoring post surgery bone healing (e.g.
sternotomy related to heart surgery, or orthopedic surgery) only
detect failures at a relatively late stage, often resulting in
complicated treatments and late revision operations with
associated significant expenses to the health system. At present,
surgical bone procedures are monitored by X-Ray and other imaging
modalities, which are of low resolution and based on subjective
interpretation. This form of static monitoring is relatively
inaccurate and has associated radiation risks.
The IntelliMedi solution significantly improves and complements
the current imaging modalities, and provides the physician with
an easy to use, objective, high resolution tool for early
evaluation and further decision making.
THE TECHNOLOGY
The IntelliMedi system includes miniature, maintenance free,
passive (does not require energy) sensors that are implanted into
the bone during the operation. A transmitter/receiver unit,
placed outside the body, transmits a pulse and receives the
sensor's unique response. The current reading of dynamic minute
displacements under
stress is displayed on a follow up graph at a resolution higher
than 100 microns. The external unit is based on a laptop PC, and
readings can be taken in the doctor's clinic or even in the
patient's home.

monitoring system that prevents improper treatment and late
revision surgery.
APPLICATIONS
At present IntelliMedi is focused on open heart surgery. In the
next stage IntelliMedi will use the same technology platform for
the various orthopedic market segments.
ENTREPRENEURS
Mr. Kobi Stern - CEO, brings broad
technical, marketing and managerial experience in several
industrial electronic companies.
Prof. David G. Mendes - MD, an orthopedic
surgeon of international repute, has developed numerous
innovative orthopedic surgical procedures and devices.
Dr. Sachi Regev - Ph.D., a biologist,
experience in the management of medical device start-ups,
oversees the company's Clinical & Regulatory Affairs.
PROJECT STATUS
The company owns multiple patents over the applied technology,
and has obtained a substantial governmental investment.
* 3 Patents have been approved (USA). Additional patent has been
filed
* Preliminary hardware and software have been developed and
tested
* Proof of concept has been established (bone models)
* Preliminary experimental studies have been successfully
conducted on animals.
COOPERATION REQUIRED
IntelliMedi is seeking further investment in order to upgrade the
product, complete animal investigations and begin clinical
studies complying with regulation requirements within one year.
