Project title: PRODUCTION OF LIGHT COMPOSITE MATERIALS OF ORIENTED STRUCTURAL STRENGTH
Company name : ESCOM STRUCTURAL COMPOSITE MATERIALS LTD.
MATERIALS LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Composite Materials
KEY WORDS
Sandwich Materials, Textile
Reinforcement, Oriented Strength
PROJECT SUMMARY
ESCOM has developed a process for designing products out of
composite materials for use in a wide variety of industries.
ESCOM's novel technology consists of a 3D textile grid, design
with oriented strength. The grid is embedded in small amount of
polymeric foam, and placed between two rigid face sheets. The
production process takes place in a single low pressure mold. The
outcome is a light and strong end product. ESCOM's designed
materials can have strength-to-weight characteristics similar to
those of the strongest materials currently used, with the added
advantage of design flexibility, which allows for parts that have
three-dimensional strength oriented in the areas and directions
required by the customer, and complex shapes.
ADVANTAGES
* Enhanced weight to strength ratio - tradeoffs can be made.
* Production of end products in one mold - no additional assembly
required.
* Optimization of raw materials - in case the face sheets and
fibers are the same material the product can be recycled.
* Oriented strength - in specific required directions.
* Low pressure molding - low price molding tools and equipment.
* Increases fuel economy, performance and safety in automotive,
transport, and airspace products.
* Complex shapes can be produced in one mold- freedom of product
design
APPLICATIONS
* Automotive - parts and car bodies for passenger cars, body
panels, front and rear end of busses, truck cabs, energy
absorbing fenders.
* Trains - front and rear ends of locomotives, body panels, light
train wagons, seats doors and accessories.
* Airspace - body structures, doors, seats and accessories.
* Marine - small boats and yacht bodies, panels and accessories.
* Construction - panels and internal walls, doors, facings and
architectural elements.
* Sports and recreation safety elements - helmets and safety
wear.
* Military - light structural elements for armored vehicles and
arms.

PROJECT STATUS
The project concluded 2.5 years in the Technological Incubators
Program on November 2004.
The company succeeded to rise private investment and started as
an independent company ever since.
The company conducts presently R&D projects for Israeli companies
in four distinctive areas: Automotive energy absorbing parts,
automotive light and strong parts, military parts, and medical
equipment.
COOPERATION REQUIRED
Additional investment, customers, and strategic partners for
marketing.
