Project title: INFLATABLE PLIABLE SPLINTS
Company name : R&D SUPPORT LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Medical devices
KEY WORDS
Support of Limbs,
Orthopedic Splints, Inflatable Splints
PROJECT SUMMARY
The company is developing pliable, variable-stiffness, inflatable
splints to provide more efficient support in a variety of
emergency and elective situations.
Apart from plaster of Paris and surgical operative fixation, the
efficacy of temporary or definitive support, immobilization, and
pain relief afforded by currently used methods is quite doubtful.
The company's aim is to relieve suffering and enhance healing by
supporting the injured or diseased part using human-friendly
engineering, appropriate to modern concepts of wound and bone
tissue repair.
The inflatable splint family is a new step forwards in Functional
Bracing and offers much wider applications. Its controlled
stiffness or pliability allows movement and function whilst
healing is taking place, in line with contemporary understanding
of healing processes, which require the gentle graded loading and
stretching of the tissues rather than stiff rigid immobilization.
Inflatable splints ease the patient's suffering and facilitate
the work of the doctor and the nurse. They are also excellent for
first aid and transportation of casualties to the hospital and
within the hospital.
