Project title: INDUSTRIAL ENZYMES FROM MUSHROOMS

Company name : MYCOENZYME LTD.

TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Biotechnology

KEY WORDS
Biotechnology,
Ligninolytic Enzymes, Laccase, Manganese and Lignin Peroxidases

PROJECT SUMMARY
The company develops an efficient technology for production of
lignin degrading enzymes from mushrooms for use in a variety of
industrial applications. The basics of the technology have been
developed by the entrepreneur prior to the start of the project.

TARGET MARKET
Lignin, one of three important constituents of wood, is a complex
polymer, which is particularly recalcitrant to biodegradation.
Lignin-modifying enzymes (manganese-dependant peroxidases, lignin
peroxidases and laccases) are used in large quantities for
bio-pulping, bio-bleaching, bio-transformation and
bio-remediation, mostly in pulp and paper, textile and food
industries.

ADVANTAGES
The proprietary technology comprises the following developments:
* Selection of new fast growing strains of Higher Basidiomycetes
mushrooms,
* Unique fermentation procedures enabling to receive several
enzymes in one technological process,
* Incorporation of nutrients and other substances,
* Improved isolation and purification procedures.

Technological and commercial advantages:
* Tremendous yield of specified enzymes in submerged and
solid-state fermentation,
* Replacement of harmful chemicals at significant costs
reduction,
* High enzyme thermo-stability with a broad pH optimum,
* Short time cultivation period, inexpensive and simple medium
composition, very low production costs.

ENTREPRENEURS
Prof. Vladimir Elisashvili - a world known
specialist in mycology and mushroom biochemistry.

Late Dr. Miron Timor - The late Dr. Miron
Timor was the founder of MycoEnzyme, and served as the company's
CEO. He held a D.S.c in mathematics from the Technion, and the
highest academic/teaching rank there for non-tenure specialists.
He authored 35 scientific papers and wrote more than a dozen
books in his field. Dr. Timor held the Jabotinski Award from the
Technion, and the IBM Invention Achievement Award.
Dr. Miron is greatly missed by all in MycoEnzyme and in L.N.
Innovation Technologies.

PROJECT STATUS
The project was launched in June 2004
Scientific cooperation with the Institute of Biochemistry and
Biotechnology of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia (former USSR
Republic).

COOPERATION REQUIRED
