PROJECT SUMMARY
MECH. COATING LTD. has developed a superior tungsten carbide
coating and a novel technique for coating mechanical face seals
with nickel binder material, using powder metallurgy technology.
The resulting coating, 1-3mm of thickness, is inseparable from
the steel body. Both seal friction surfaces have the same
tungsten carbide coating.
The innovative seal coating can be applied on any type of steel
including stainless steel.
MECH. COATING LTD. approach guarantees a high degree of seal
tightness for a prolonged operational service life, practically
eliminating sudden failures.
Major advantages include: significantly lower costs than solid
alloy seals; exceptional anti-friction and sealing properties;
high strength and micro-hardness, high resistance to wear and
especially vibration; multiple utilization; direct welding of
coated seals on metal bellows; absence of thermal cracking and
brittleness. These advantages translate into substantial
performance and cost benefits for users of the tungsten carbide
coated mechanical face seals.

APPLICATIONS
The wide range of applications for the coated seals includes
their use in sealing units for rotary shafts working in different
media, electro-drills for oil well drilling and submersible
electric motors for oil production from wells, boring bits with
oil filled bearings, centrifugal pumps, chemical equipment and
devices, turbo-generators and turbo-compressors.

the field, 27 patents, 60 scientific publications based on his
innovations.

PROJECT STATUS
MECH. COATING LTD. started its first year in the incubator on
January 1,1998 and now it has finished its incubator period and
operates independently.
At present the above coated seal rings successfully operate in
the industrial conditions in some Israeli Enterprises. The
patented tungsten carbide coating for face seal rings shows the
great potential for the industrial use.
