Project title: HUMAN COLLAGEN FROM TRANSGENIC PLANTS

Company name : COLLPLANT LTD.

TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Biotechnology, Recombinant
Collagen, Transgenic Plants

KEY WORDS
Collagen, Facial
Aesthetics, Urinary Incontinence, Wound Dressings Bio-Farming

PROJECT SUMMARY
CollPlant Ltd. specializes in the development and
commercialization of medical products based on safe,
plant-derived collagen and other recombinant proteins produced in
its proprietary transgenic plant expression and production
system.

CollPlant Ltd. has developed a unique, proprietary transgenic
plant expression and production system for Type I human collagen.
CollPlant's novel production system is based on expression of
recombinant proteins in specific plant compartments, allowing the
recovery of high quality collagen. To date, our research team has
genetically engineered tobacco plants capable of co-expressing
procollagen, which we then process into stable, triple helical
atelocollagen molecules. Telocollagen, a form of collagen with
intact telopeptides flanking the protein on its terminal ends, is
also currently under development, and prototype material will be
available in 2008.

Since CollPlant's collagen is extracted from plants and not
animal tissues, the Company can control and adjust the
post-translational processing and the extraction/purification
processes, enabling the production of high quality collagen which
forms fibrils in the same manner occurring in the human body and
provides enhanced structural order and mechanical strength.
Characterization of CollPlant's atelocollagen shows that it is
very similar to Type I collagen naturally present in human
tissues, and thus it is an ideal alternative to bovine, porcine
and other animal-based collagen sources.

Type I human collagen represents the company's initial success
using its novel production system. However, the flexibility of
the Company's platform promises to facilitate the expression of
all collagen types and forms in the future as well as other
recombinant proteins and Plant Made Pharmaceuticals (PMPs).

THE MARKET
Collagen Type I, the most predominant collagen type in the human
body found primarily in bones and skin, is extensively utilized
for medical and therapeutic applications including orthopedics
(bone grafts and spinal disc repair), aesthetic medicine (soft
tissue dermal fillers), tissue engineering (regeneration and
repair), urology (urethral bulking agents), wound healing
(hemostats), cosmetics and more. The total market for
collagen-based medical products is currently estimated to be
several billion dollars per year, and growing.

PROJECT STATUS
CollPlant Ltd. was founded as a Meytav Incubator portfolio
company in June 2004. Since leaving the incubator in Q1 2007,
CollPlant established a 1000 sqm state of the art greenhouse for
development of its scale-up process, successfully completed
preliminary safety testing in animals, and raised over $8M in
private funding.

The company currently has two process patents pending worldwide,
two composition-of-matter patents pending, and two more process
and composition-of-matter patents in preparation, to be filed in
2008.

COOPERATION REQUIRED
CollPlant Ltd. is actively seeking collaborations with
pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies to
co-develop advanced end-user products for a variety of medical
fields based on our recombinant human collagen and other protein
polymers. In addition, the company is interested in in-licensing
agreements with emerging companies and academic groups developing
collagen and protein polymer/composites technologies.
