Project title: MEDICAL DEVICE FOR THE TREATMENT OF BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA
Company name : UC CARE MEDICAL SYSTEMS LTD.
SYSTEMS LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Health Care, Urology
KEY WORDS
Health Care, Urology
PROJECT SUMMARY
UC CARE has developed a solution that enables the relief of the
pressure on the urethra by ablation of the surrounding tissue. In
contrast to competing techniques, the UC ARE system's ablation
needles are accurately spaced at a safe distance around the
urethra, enabling ablation of the prostate surrounding tissue
right where ablation is needed and in a one step.
The method also allows preservation of the neurovascular bundles
of the prostate, a damage which causes impotence following a
certain percentage of BPH treatments today.
UC CARE patented technology makes use of the prostate gland
natural structure, and enables the placement of therapeutic
treatment needles accurately around it, at a fully controllable
distance.
UC CARE's technology integrates the already proven (and FDA
cleared) minimally invasive treatments for BPH with an innovative
technology in order to verify the location of the treatment area
prior to the application of the ablation energy.
The system gives a tool in the hands of the urologist to perform
minimally invasive ablation of the prostate in his own practice
under local anesthesia.
The result is a simple, safe, accurate and economically priced
technique. The company estimates that the treatment will be more
effective than previous methods, bringing more relief for longer
durations and promises better clinical results.
UC CARE goal is to develop a low cost disposable device having a
very high gross margin, enabling to attract leading partners as
distributors, while maintaining high profitability at UC CARE.
The cost of basic hardware used to operate the disposable kit
will be remarkably low, enabling easy penetration of the
treatment into the market.
THE MARKET
Market Size: the BPH market annual revenues in the US alone are
over US $1.5 billion. The market for minimal invasive treatment
of BPH is expected to surpass US $340 million by 2008, boasting a
compound annual growth rate of more than 20%. The world-wide
market doubles these numbers
Market Trends: Two processes dominate the major changes in the
BPH treatment market: (1) The interventional market is starting
to show a strong move from TURP to minimal invasive device
treatment, and (2) Patients that are reluctant to undertake TURP
due to its high morbidity and currently are heavily treated by
drugs, can be expected to move towards selection of an
interventional treatment (device treatment) that constitutes a
less serious intervention than TURP, yet effectively improves
their quality of life.

PROJECT STATUS
The company was established in August 2004.
UC CARE has developed a plan for achieving FDA and CE approval
followed by Reimbursement approval from leading insurance
companies. It is the company expectation that it will be able to
achieve rapid FDA approval, using the fast "510K" route, by
following the footsteps of other companies whose treatments for
BPH have already been approved. For the same reason, UC CARE
expects rapid approval of reimbursement by leading insurance
companies.
UC CARE's expected short time to market will enable the company
to catch the current trend of moving towards device-based
treatment, and to benefit from the current high gross market.
COOPERATION REQUIRED
Equity investment. Strategic partners for marketing.
