Project title: NOVEL DEVICE FOR TISSUE ATTACHMENT
Company name : ENDOGUN MEDICAL SYSTEMS LTD.
SYSTEMS LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Health Care, Urology,
Urogynecology, Surgery
KEY WORDS
Minimally Invasive
Surgery, Sutureless Surgery
PROJECT SUMMARY
Endogun Medical Systems offers innovative solutions for the
rapidly growing world of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). The
internal suturing of organs and tissues - a key element in many
MIS operations - is one of the more difficult procedures to
perform. Conventional needle-and-thread sewing - or using a
stapler in the confined space offered in these procedures - is
lengthy, difficult and often unsuccessful, limiting many
procedures to specific techniques that are more complex, costly,
or with additional side effects. The Company has developed a
novel method of closing and securing internal tissue in a safe,
effective manner, using proprietary `anchors' - small darts that
are inserted using a patented fixation device, into the relevant
soft tissue. By offering a technique that is more versatile than
today's options, the Company believes that it can improve the
quality and outcome of many MIS procedures.
The initial focus of the Company is the rapidly growing field of
urogynecology. The Company's EndoFast Reliant product range will
help to fasten tissue and offer additional support to loosely
held organs, which will be of great value in Pelvic Floor
Reconstruction, a major unmet medical need in the world today.
When the balanced set of supports of the female pelvic floor is
damaged, equilibrium of muscular forces may be disturbed, leading
to herniation (bulging of tissue) due to this weakened support
system. This "falling" of tissue into another region/organ - also
known as prolapse - generally leads to a stage where surgical
intervention is the only reasonable method of correction.
Based on the Company's understanding of both physiology and
bio-engineering the Company's EndoFast Reliant systems will
provide a quantum leap in the management of such procedures.
Having developed a simpler mesh attachment solution than
currently offered, the Company offers an ideal solution for
payor, physician and patient; the Company feels that it may
command a dominant position in the treatment of hundreds of
thousands of patients worldwide.
THE MARKET
With over 6 million severe prolapse cases in US and Europe, the
pelvic prolapse market reached approximately 400,000 operations
per year in 2005, and it continues to rise. At a cost of
approximately $1000 per kit for each procedure, this lucrative
market is still in its infancy. As a market finely tuned to many
minimally invasive techniques, urogynecology offers a fertile
ground of innovative physicians. Future markets include other
areas of surgery that seek simpler suturing/fastening including
fields of urology and general/laparoscopic surgery (including
hernia), markets that is expected to increase the number of
relevant surgical treatments to over 3 million per annum in US
and Europe.
