PROJECT SUMMARY
HELIX MEDICAL SYSTEMS LTD. is an Israeli medical company
developing innovative medical imaging devices for cancer
diagnostic and treatment.

The company's first product is the Circular Breast Ultrasound
Scanner (CBUS)
The CBUS is an automated system that provides high quality MPR
images of the breast.
The CBUS system produces ultrasonic breast images by acquiring
circular or helical ultrasonic data from the breast. These images
then undergo a process of 3D reconstruction and volume rendering
of the data in order to produce 3D images which show diagnostic
information of the complete volume of breast tissue including
blood flow in a single ultrasonic 3D image.
Automatic, computer controlled robot arm is used to guide an
instrument such as a biopsy needle, or high energy ultrasound to
the diseased tissue, with reference to the detected lesion in the
3D image.

The CBUS system can be used with existing ultrasound systems.
Therefore, the customer dose not need to learn a new system,
change the image style/"flavor". Most of the breast clinics have
ultrasound systems whose users are proficient with their user
interface, used to the image quality, style, "feel". The CBUS
does not change anything in the operation, control or the image
of the ultrasound system which it is augmenting and which the
user is so used to.

Company's design concepts as well as the business philosophy are
to provide for a complete solution (both diagnostic and
therapeutic) which will significantly shorten the present
"freehand" procedure's (including set-up) time, increase patient
throughput, resulting in increased clinic revenue (easy to
justify ROI) and improved patient comfort. Having this in mind
our design allows for access to the entire breast in the same
orientation and relations of probe to needle as presently used by
the physicians. The CBUS includes disposable components that
ensure ongoing utilization of the installed base.

In addition to 2D standard imaging, the CBUS provides an enhanced
MPR image on its auxiliary monitor. This image takes advantage of
the multiple sampling of the breast during the tomographic scan,
resulting in superior sensitivity, and in improved signal to
noise ratio and resolution.

PROJECT STATUS
The company was established in mid-2004 with seed funding
provided by the Meytav incubator and private investors.
The company completed development and production of its CBUS for
diagnostic prototype and is now undergoing clinical evaluation in
a several major hospitals.
