PROJECT SUMMARY
Recogene's therapeutic approach involves an ex-vivo gene excision
system that recognizes HIV genes and excises them out of human
chromosomes. The result of this procedure is twofold: Preventing
the virus from completing its life cycle, reproducing and
infecting other cells in the patient's body, and sustaining
normal levels of the immune system cells. This dual approach
should increase the therapeutic efficacy of current treatments
for HIV.
Recogene's product will be a vector that contains the DNA
sequence of the modified Cre enzymes optimized and specific for
HIV1 excision and a transfection protocol.

PROJECT STATUS
The Project was approved for incubation in June 2006. The company
has succeeded to effectively catalyze specific in vitro
recombination between two asymmetric lox sites that are more
abundant in the human genome which opens new avenues to a host of
genome manipulation strategies that can be utilized in
therapeutic applications.
Recogene has constructed mutated Cre libraries and initiated
selection for enzymes active on mixed loxP-LTR targets.
Identification of modified Cre that can act on LTR is underway.
