Project title: REAL-TIME LABOR AND FETAL MONITORING
Company name : BIRMONT MEDICAL LTD
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Health care
KEY WORDS
Dilatation, Effacement,
Fetal Heart Beat, Contractions, Archiving, Mobility, Integrated
System
PROJECT SUMMARY
Birmont Medical is developing an integrated-technology device for
the continuous real-time monitoring of labor progression,
including cervical effacement and dilatation.
Birmont's proprietary technology offers delivery room healthcare
professionals the first multi-parameter labor monitor that not
only enables accurate, real-time data acquisition and recording
without the need for constant staff intervention, but also allows
the mother in labor to move around freely in the vicinity of the
labor ward.
Birmont's device will allow laboring mothers to be continuously
monitored without the need for repeated digital examinations.
The Birmont device will:
* Reduce the rate of infection caused by digital examinations
* Allow constant monitoring of all labor ward patients
* Simultaneously monitor the condition of the fetus
* Allow early detection of slow or difficult labor
* Increase mothers' comfort and freedom of movement; free to move
around within the maternity ward, while monitoring continues
uninterruptedly.
* Provide automatic reporting and digital archiving of labor
progression data
MARKET
The potential market for the Birmont device is approximately 80%
of all women in labor (the remaining 20% arrive at the hospital
after the baby's head has crowned). The potential number of
devices may be compared to the number of fetal monitors, which is
45,000 in the United States. The opportunity for disposable
elements is a factor of the number of registered births. An even
larger market is that of OB/GYN clinics. This market will be
accessed at the second stage of product introduction.
