PROJECT SUMMARY
ORIONSOLAR has the technological potential to develop the most
cost-effective solar cells on the market. These solar cells will
provide, for the first time, solar energy directly competitive
with existing energy sources, without subsidies.

The ORIONSOLAR cell is a passive photovoltaic cell based on dye
sensitized technology, first demonstrated in 1992. Dye cells are
based on materials and manufacturing methods which are
potentially an order of magnitude cheaper than silicon
crystalline photo-voltaics, the most commonly available
technology today. Crystalline cells are now being sold for around
US $3-4 per peak watt whereas ORIONSOLAR cells will cost less
than US $0.75 per peak watt. Apart from much lower material costs
for ORIONSOLAR cells compared with silicon cells, the
manufacturing line will cost 70-90% less, being based on simple
coating and air curing/baking technologies.
