Project title: PROCESSING SAPPHIRE SUBSTRATES FOR THE SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY
Company name : SAPPHICUT LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Opto-electronics, LED
KEY WORDS
Opto-electronics,
Sapphire Substrates, LED, Semiconductors
PROJECT SUMMARY
SAPPHICUT LTD. has developed a new version of diamond cutting
tool, which allows for production of high-quality sapphire
substrates, in-house, at a lower cost. The proposed technology
for the mechanical processing of single sapphire crystals is very
efficient even at low pressures. Slicing, grinding and lapping
can be carried out without distortion of the sapphire component.
The production of very delicate or thin components will be
possible and cost effective.
The company will utilize this proprietary technology and tooling
for the in-house production of a wide assortment of sapphire
substrates for different industrial applications, but primarily
for the high-brightness Light Emitting Diode (LED) market.
ADVANTAGES
1. Quality Advantages:
* Less distortion to components.
* Excellent surface quality.
* Superior subsurface layer: drastically reduced subsurface
damage.
* Elimination of surface waviness.
* Greatly reduced post process distortion.
* Greatly reduced pre-machining thickness.
* Excellent for use with thin, large components
2. Production Advantages
* Large Increases in the productivity and machine time
utilization.
* Very high yield of good quality sapphire substrates.
* Material removal rates are maximized for a given surface.
