Project title: NANOPOWDER PRODUCTION FROM SCRAP IRON

Company name : BIOPIGMENT LTD.

TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Nanotechnology, Biotechnology

KEY WORDS
Nanotechnology, Scrap
Iron, Recycling, Bio-Oxidation, Iron Oxide Pigments, Environment,
Environmental Biotechnology

PROJECT SUMMARY
It is widely acknowledged that nanotechnology - the creation,
alteration and manipulation of materials at the supramolecular
level - will be the catalyst for the next great technology leap.
Nano-engineering creates new materials that are better, stronger,
tougher and last longer.

In line with this vital trend, BIOPIGMENT LTD. has developed an
innovative bio-oxidation technology for the production of
nanoparticles.

As a first application, the company is focusing on the production
of high quality iron oxide pigments based on oxidizing scrap
iron, using specially cultured microorganisms.

BIOPIGMENT's nanotechnology results in pigments which are suited
as excellent coloring agents and can be sold in the form of
powdered, paste and granulated pigments to a wide range of
end-users.

ADVANTAGES
* Significant cost savings - pigments with a current market price
of over US $9,000 can be produced from materials costing less
than US $300.
* High quality pigment production.
* Low level of impurity.
* Exceptional color brightness.
* Environmentally friendly - no hazardous gases or waste products
are emitted.

MARKET
The leading users of iron oxide pigments are producers of
construction materials (50%) and paints and coatings (28%). The
market is forecast to show continuing annual growth of up to 7%.
Importantly, the leading producers are facing increased price
competition with the inflow of low quality pigments from low cost
producers (such as China) and actively seeking ways of cutting
costs in order to maintain margins. BIOPIGMENT is initially
focusing on the markets for high quality, micronized iron oxide
pigments.

ENTREPRENEURS
Dr. Vladimir Boiko - Chief Scientist, Ph.D in
Geology, Lithology, Mineralogy and Petrography of uraniferrous
granular phosphorites.
Dr. Marlen Oryol - Chief Technology Officer,
Ph.D. in Mining Technology. Expertised biochemical methods for
production of copper and iron oxide pigments.
Mr. Hillel Lerman - VP for Business
Development, Extensive experience in managing and leading
start-up companies into the global market.

PROJECT STATUS
BIOPIGMENT LTD. was established in 1999. It has finished the
incubator period.
BIOPIGMENT's technology is patent pending. BIOPIGMENT's products
tested in the laboratories of some of the world's leading
industry companies were found to be of high quality and meet
international standards. R&D is currently being carried out on
significantly reducing Titanium Dioxide manufacturing costs.

COOPERATION REQUIRED
Strategic Partners, Joint Ventures, Financial Investment.
