KEY WORDS

PROJECT SUMMARY
Playcast is a software start-up company, developing the next
generation media experience. The company's system seamlessly
multiplexes games and virtual worlds with regular television
content over existing set top boxes.
Playcast's product is a video server and system for VoD networks
(Cable or IPTV), which renders, encodes and streams high-end
games in real-time. Playcast's proprietary algorithms drastically
reduce inherent latency, while maintaining console like video
quality and a standard MPEG stream and bitrate. This unique
technology is based entirely on head-end video processing,
requires no changes to set top boxes or games. Playcast's target
market is worldwide cable and IPTV operators.
In addition to its game streaming capabilities, Playcast's server
can seamlessly splice and multiplex games with standard
television streams (broadcast or narrowcast). These capabilities
translate into a New Medium, in which virtual worlds and TV
content are experienced seamlessly, programmers can interact
directly with viewers, and live games based animation programs
can be produced on the fly (a.k.a. Machinima).
