PROJECT SUMMARY
IntuScan is a decision-support expert system for real-time
exploitation of documents in non-English languages for
identifying and characterizing predefined types of documents and
giving them a priority rating. The system analyzes individual or
large batches (Internet, computer discs etc.) of digital or
physical non-English documents, determines the relevance of the
document(s) to a wide category of requirements, categorizes the
documents according to specific requirements and produces a
summary that includes a rating of the relevance of the
document(s) to the requirements, integrated conclusions regarding
the content of the document, inventories of key elements in the
document which were relevant to reaching the rating and links to
comments and elaboration on those elements.

The initial product deals with Arabic language documents which
are relevant to radical Islam, terrorism and other intelligence
requirements relevant to the Arab Middle East. However, since our
technology is based on a language independent ontology and a
language linked lexicon, it will be adapted later to other areas
and languages such as Farsi, Pashto, Urdu, Bahasa (Indonesian)
etc.

The product consists of evolving supervised and unsupervised
learning knowledge bases, natural language processing engines and
unique algorithms for identifying relevant features of the
documents. The multi-engine system includes: a natural language
engine, a key words and key phrases engine based on a lexicon
linked to an ontology of requirement-driven concepts, a
statistical scoring engine (based on an evolving learning set),
format analysis, graphic analysis, a rule-base engine and
propriety algorithms for integrating all the engines and a
summary engine. The engines draw on an elaborate and constantly
updated knowledge base of concepts, names, places, expressions,
religious texts etc. relevant to the requirements of Islamic
terrorism.

Ph.D. in History of the Middle East from Tel-Aviv University
(1989), M.A. (magna cum laude) in History of the Middle East from
Tel-Aviv University (1984) and a B.A from The Hebrew University
of Jerusalem, 1974, in Jewish and Middle Eastern History.
Mr. Shabtai Shavit - Advisory Board
Member, over 40 years of experience in international security and
counter-terrorism.
Dr. Tony Martin - Advisory Board
Member, spent 22 years in the US Army, retired as a
Lieutenant-Colonel.

PROJECT STATUS
The project started the first year of the Incubator period in
November 2006.
