PROJECT SUMMARY
HEADWAY LTD. has developed a medical device (Occiflex) that
offers an innovative treatment solution for patients suffering
from a number of different types of headaches (migraine,
tension-type, post-traumatic, cervicogenic), whiplash injury, and
myofascial neck pain.
Chronic head and neck pain due to migraines, tension headaches,
and post-traumatic headache (such as whiplash) affect a large
segment of the population. Migraines alone affect 18% of females
and 6% of males in the United States. Chronic head and neck pain
cause an enormous economic burden: More than 50% of the patients
suffering from migraines report disability severe enough to limit
activity, resulting in decreased productivity at work, school,
and home.
Medication, physical therapy, and other existing therapeutic
interventions provide only temporary pain relief at best. Many of
the current treatments are known to be ineffective, harmful, and
are even associated with significant adverse effects.

TECHNOLOGY
Occiflex consists of a specialized head cradle that is adjusted
to the patient's head and neck. Controlled by a computer, the
cradle moves the head gently along a predefined 3D course.
Optimized for each individual patient, the course is determined
by and based on a computerized analysis of the neck and shoulder
girdle muscle EMG signals.

The primary population to benefit from Headway's solutions
comprises mainly patients suffering from the following
conditions:
* CDH (chronic daily headache) - migraine and tension-type
headache (TTH) subtypes
* Chronic neck pain (whiplash, myofacial pain)
* Post-traumatic and cervicogenic headaches
The total cumulative size of Headway's head and neck pain market
is about 45 million people in the United States, and even more in
Europe. This market does not include sub-acute patients who
suffer from conditions such as migraines and TTH which are not
defined as chronic, but could definitely benefit from the retail
product.

Headway's initial market potential is around 30,000 physiotherapy
clinics in the U.S. and Europe alone. 30,000 X 20,000$ (per
unit) = US $600M. Consumables (cradle inner parts) are estimated
at $15-20 (per patient) X 4.5x107 (US chronic patients) = US
$675-900M.
