PROJECT SUMMARY
The company is developing a commercial formulation, comprising
pathogenic fungi, to control ticks. The potential of
entomopathogenic fungi as tick control agents has been
demonstrated in laboratories with great success.
Presently, there are several biological products on the market,
based on the activity of specific fungi against plant pathogens.
The information derived from the research and development of
these products may help to shorten the development of biological
products for the control of ticks. The processes for mass
production and the formulation of biological products consisting
of active fungi is well known.

MARKET
The ectoparasitic market has been one of the most dynamic sectors
of the animal health market over the last few years, mainly due
to new flea control products for pets.
The market for veterinary antiparasitic treatments was
transformed in the last two decades, first by the
commercialization of endectocides and then by the phenomenal
success of novel pet flea treatments. These new product groups
have added substantially to the value of the market that is now
estimated at close to US $3.5 billion, and that could be
transformed again over the next 20 years by the development and
application of both novel products and new parasite control
strategies.

PROJECT STATUS
The project started in late 2003.
Laboratory trials, with initial formulation containing specific
isolates of fungi were finished with very good tick control
results.
