Project title: ELECTRONIC EYEGLASSES FOR TREATMENT OF AMBLYOPIA IN CHILDREN

Company name : OPHTHOCARE LTD.

TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Ophthalmology, Medical devices

KEY WORDS
Amblyopia, Lazy Eye, Occluder,
Electronic Eyeglasses, Eye Patching

PROJECT SUMMARY
OphthoCare has developed unique electronic glasses (Liquid
Crystal Glasses- LCG) for treatment of ocular disorders and nerve
stimulation applications.
The first product, intended for treating Amblyopia (lazy eye) in
children, has successfully completed clinical trials with very
good results. Pre -clinical studies on additional applications
are still ongoing.
Company products are based on unique IP, backed by full licensing
of relevant prior art. Strong in house-research and development
capabilities facilitates R&D.

Amblyopia, also named 'Lazy Eye Syndrome', is a medical disorder
common in about 3-5% of children and should be treated at early
ages of childhood.
The most commonly used treatment is enforcement of utilization of
the weak eye by patching of the sound eye. This treatment is
problematic and highly disliked by the children. As a result,
treatment success rate is low (less than 50%). The outcome is
that children remain with their disorder for life.
The LCG provide an alternative therapy, highly preferred by
parents and children alike. An electronic LC shutter,
incorporated into the optical refractive lens, performs short
periodical occlusions, shifting the visual center activity
towards the neglected eye. A bed side "compliance meter"
indicates wear time and provides valuable compliance information
to parents and physicians.
The LCG is expected to achieve high compliance and better success
rates in the treatment of Amblyopia.
