Project title: ADAPTIVE WEIGHT BEARING MONITORING SYSTEM FOR GAIT REHABILITATION
Company name : ANDANTE MEDICAL DEVICES LTD.
LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Biofeedback, Motor Learning
KEY WORDS
Healthcare, Rehabilitation
& Homecare, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physical
Therapy, Gait Biofeedback, Foot Pressure Measurement
PROJECT SUMMARY
Andante Medical Devices was established to revolutionize the
rehabilitation of injured lower limbs with an innovative portable
gait rehabilitation device: The SmartStep. The system offers a
solution to the problems associated with limited weight bearing
and gait re-education following lower limb injuries. The
SmartStep is applicable to orthopedic patients after fracture
injuries, joint replacement and ligament tears; to patients post
lower limb amputation; and to patients post Cerebral Vascular
Accident or Cerebral Palsy. In addition, the device has potential
applications for athletes and sports rehabilitation. Developed by
a multidisciplinary team of biomedical engineers, the SmartStep
apparatus measures the force applied under the foot, and guides
patients as they strive for an optimal load control target,
through the use of an innovative biofeedback mechanism. The
benefits of the SmartStep include: Improved bone and tissue
healing; reduced possibility of implant failure; improved gait
pattern post stroke, improves patient independence at home; lower
overall rehabilitation costs.
APPLICATION
1. Neurological Deficits resulting from events such as CVA
(Cerebral Vascular Accident) or Stroke and CP (Cerebral Palsy)
2. Orthopedic Conditions: such as fractures, soft tissue injuries
or joint replacement surgical procedures which all require
significant rehabilitation.
3. Traumatic amputations resulting from diabetes or other cause.
4. Sport injuries.
