Project title: POLYSACCHARIDE DERIVATIVES
Company name : CONJUGATE LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Conjugated Drugs & Antiinfection
Drugs
KEY WORDS
Polysaccharides,
Arabinoglactan, Amphotericine B, Fungal Infections. Conjugated
Drugs, Drug Delivery
PROJECT SUMMARY
The Company has developed a unique platform technology involving
polymer-drug conjugates designed to improve the safety and
efficacy of clinically-used small drug molecules. The Company's
technology can be applied to many drugs, offering specific
critical enhancement for each conjugated drug.
The Company's first product is an antifungal therapy for acute
invasive fungal infections in patients with compromised immune
systems. The novel treatment is a next-generation,
broad-spectrum, injectable antifungal based on Amphotericin B, a
drug known to be highly efficacious, yet extremely toxic.
ConjuGate's unique proprietary technology allows for the
preservation of the drug's efficacy while dramatically reducing
its toxicity.
ADVANTAGES
The platform technology and the new drug has several advantages
over the
existing AmB formulations: higher solubility, lower toxicity and
higher target tissue
concentration, providing better therapeutic effect. ConjuGate's
unique proprietary technology allows for the preserving of the
drug's efficacy while dramatically reducing its toxicity.
MARKETS
The Company's new drug will potentially serve an estimated 9
million patients across seven major markets who are considered
`at risk' for invasive fungal infections, with approximately 1.2
million per year actually affected (2003 estimates).
Fungal infections are becoming a serious public-health hazard,
particularly due to the increasing incidence of life-threatening
fungal infections in immunocompromised hosts such as cancer
patients, patients after transplantation and patients with AIDS.
The total market value of systemic antifungal drugs was estimated
to reach as much as 5 billion $ in 2014 (Data monitor may 2004).
The estimated market share for ConjuGate's Antifungal drug is
expected to be as high as 1 billion $ of the total systemic
antifungal market.
