Project title: DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND DISCOVERY OF NOVEL DRUG TARGETS FOR ATOPIC DISEASES, USING CLOSED POPULATION GENE LINKAGE

Company name : LINKAGENE LTD

TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Biotechnology, Diagnostics, Drug
development

KEY WORDS
Polygenic, Asthma, DNA,
Microarray, Bioinformatics

PROJECT SUMMARY
Development of accurate diagnostic kits for complex polygenic
diseases using DNA microarray signatures of diseases. LinkaGene
has developed unique research strategy and bioinformatics tools,
which combine accurate clinical definitions with state of the art
molecular biology, genetics and statistics.
The basic hypothesis is that specific and statistically
significant changes in gene expression characterize each type of
disease. These signatures are used for the identification and
diagnosis of diseases and will be used for the selection of
drugs, prognosis forecast, toxicology studies, drug development
etc.

ADVANTAGES
LinkaGene platforms offer to both biotech and pharmaceutical
companies significant advantages to boost their drug development
and clinical capabilities.
Combining the company's homogeneous population with precise
phenotype definition is the most effective way for the
development of accurate diagnostic kits and the understanding of
the molecular mechanisms of complex polygenic diseases.

MARKETS
Globally, it is estimated that polygenic diseases afflict some
600 million people, and the estimated financial cost to society
of these diseases surpasses US $560 billion.

PROJECT STATUS
LinkaGene fulfilled in a little more than a year almost all the
milestones established for the two year first period. All the
clinical data, blood samples and DNA preparations for analysis
were completed. Genetic mapping using 400 markers comprising the
whole genome was performed and the analysis as well as the
database construction will be finished in the forthcoming months.
Following the fulfillment of these milestones LinkaGene is
raising further funds for the identification and characterization
of the genetic components of diseases in closed populations for
comparison with the genetic components of these diseases in the
general population.

COOPERATION REQUIRED
The company seeks additional funds, partnership and strategic
alliance with biotech and pharmaceutical companies at several
levels of the development chain.
