Project title: SPINAL IMPLANT
Company name : SPINE21 LTD.
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Spinal implant
KEY WORDS
Spine, Implant, Bionic,
Remote Control, Interspinous Process Spacer
PROJECT SUMMARY
Spine21 will be the first company in the spinal field with the
ability to adjust the size of the implant, post operatively,
using radio control. The company will bring the 21th century
high-tech capability into the conservative world of spine
surgery.
PRODUCT
AND TECHNOLOGY: Spine21 is focused on development of a
technology platform for the spine and orthopedics field,
incorporating micro electro-mechanics components and radio
control, into long term implants.
The company's first product is an interspinous process spacer to
treat low back and leg pain. This spacer is a minimal invasive,
motion preserving alternative to spinal fusion.
MARKET
OPPORTUNITY: The US market of spinal implants (hardware
only) has reached the value of $7 billion by the end of 2007. The
world-wide market of the interspinous process spacers, the first
implant Spine21 will develop, is estimated to be 7 billions US$.
COMPETITION:
interspinous process spacers are being used today,
both in the US and outside the US, but with quit poor clinical
outcomes. The ability to fine tune the size of the implant, post
operatively, with no need for any further surgical intervention,
opens new horizons in this area.
None of the existing spacers in use today has such feature.
