Project title: DERMABRASION DEVICE USING ICE MICRO-PARTICLES AS AN ABRADING MEDIUM
Company name : TETHYS MEDICAL DEVICES LTD
LTD
TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD
Medical devices
KEY WORDS
Dermabrasion, Ice
Flow, Debridement
PROJECT SUMMARY
The IceBrush, currently developed by Tethys Medical Devices Ltd.,
is an apparatus for cutting, removal and debridement of
biological tissues using a pressurized jet of ice
micro-particles. By touching the body the ice flakes gently peel
devitalized tissues, without harming vital tissues, and melt upon
impact or shortly thereafter. The liquids are sucked through a
suction hood, together with the tissue debris, to present the
operator with clean and clear working field and to avoid
contamination. The operation parameters, including temperature,
pressure, ice/air ratio, particle speed, treatment space, etc.,
are fully controlled. Several additives, such as antiseptic
agents, antibiotics, or detergents could be added to the ice jet.
A fast-acting and user-friendly portable apparatus is being
designed.
APPLICATIONS
AND TARGET MARKETS
A. Medical Applications
With the aging population and increased incidence of traumatic
wounds, as a result of more surgical operations, the number of
people suffering from ulcers (diabetic, venous stasis or
pressure) and wounds continuously increasing removal of undesired
tissue without damaging the surrounding tissue is required.
B. Aesthetic/Cosmetic Applications
Erasure of wrinkles, pits, photoaging stains and tattoos are most
common demands in the cosmetic market. Several procedures, mainly
dermabrasion (including sandpaper, rotating wire brushes, or
other abrasive materials) and peeling are widely used. Each of
these procedures suffers from various deficiencies some of which
are severe. Therefore, an effective and safe procedure is of
extreme importance.
ADVANTAGES
* Controlled layer/tissue removal
* Noninvasive technique
* Fine and accurate treatment
* Rapid treatment
* Minimal bleeding
* Non-infectious
* Combined treatments
* Improved blood flow and oxygen supply
* No contact/inhalation hazards
* Profitable unit
